I've decided to remaster some public domain books, using Project Gutenberg to retrieve the material and $LaTeX$ to typeset the final craft. Free of charge, no retribution, but not for commercial use.
I have the simple objective of providing nice editions of classics for those who want to read, modify, and share them. On a personal side, i like to discover literature and keep it alive through an easy and pleasant access. Furthermore, literature from my native region (Catalonia) is generally not very well known to outsiders, and one feels the obligation, having enjoyed Catalan literature so much (and hoping to do so for years to come), to share it to those who seek new things, and keep it from dying in the darkest of libraries.
If i feel like it, i may even attempt to translate some things. Shivers.
That said, it's not an easy task. It feels daunting to even think about typesetting a Shakespeare play, or some Tolstoy novel, or anything of such dimensions. Therefore, my output will be discrete and spaced. One thing i don't want to do, is to spit out badly formatted content without even having had the pleasure of reading through it (which was the whole point, in the first place).
I'm keeping a local Git repository, which will go 'live' at some point. But at this moment i'll limit myself to listing what is on the works, and hopefully link some finished books from time to time. The books will use semantic versioning, but with a few twists (detailed explanation to come).
I also try to remaster non-PD books, which for one reason or another are not easily available. I don't know what to do with them.
Contributions are welcome, of course. Even simply comments (requests, recommendations...) are greatly appreciated.
On the works
- (Complete) Poetry, Boris Pasternak (RU-EN). Possibly non-PD.
- Sonnets, William Shakespeare (EN).
- Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare (EN).
- (Complete) Poetry, Arseni Tarkovsky (RU). Surely non-PD.
- Els fruits saborosos, Josep Carner. Surely non-PD.
- Russian short stories, Various, compiled by Thomas Seltzer. PD.
- Rimas y Leyendas, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. PD.
- White nights, Fyodor Dostoyevsky (RU). PD.
